What is Roblox?
Roblox is the greatest social platform for play that allows kids to assume, create, and play together in immersive 3D worlds. Most of the games and experiences on Roblox have been created by the players themselves. Once a new player has registered and created an avatar, they are given their very own little bit of real estate along with a virtual toolbox (known as “Roblox Studio”) for building. They could monetize their creations to earn “Robux” (our virtual currency on Roblox), which will then be used to get more avatar accessories or additional abilities in one of many millions of experiences on the platform. Roblox gives players a secure, moderated place to generally meet, play, chat, and collaborate on creative projects. If so inclined, they can even go on to learn to build and code immersive experiences for others, all at their particular pace.
ConnectSafely, a Silicon Valley, CA-based nonprofit organization focused on educating users of connected technology about safety, privacy, and security, published a helpful guide to educate parents concerning the Roblox platform and how to advertise good digital habits for your kids. The guide also outlines the possibilities to parents to simply help provide a safe and enjoyable experience on Roblox.
Is roblox good for kids?
There is a well-respected theory named “Constructionism” first posed by Seymour Papert of MIT Media Lab which holds that kids learn best when they are in the active roles of designer and builder, and this learning is accelerated once they assume these roles in a public forum. We support this theory.
We’ve observed that quite a few users become deeply engaged with building complex structures and solving difficult problems when they understand that the fruits of the labor is going to be seen and played by others. Our platform provides a free development engine called “Roblox Studio” that allows players to produce anything from simple drag-and-drop building experiences to complex multiplayer games. An incredible number of kids have used our tools to imagine what it’s like to generate the ultimate theme park, compete as an expert race car driver, star in a manner show, turn into a superhero, or simply build a dream home and go out with friends. The amount of creativity our players exhibit, along with the amount of time and care they spend building, never doesn’t astonish us.
